Laugarvatn is a shallow lake, about 2 square km in size, and is located midway between Thingvellir, Gullfoss and Geysir, 100 km from Reykjavík.

Under its floor there are hot springs which heat the lake so that it is warm and suitable for bathing all year round.


The beautiful Laugarvatn Lake is only 2 minutes walk from the hotel.
The Þingvellir area is part of a fissure zone running through Iceland, being situated on the tectonic plate boundaries of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Thingvellir is only 20 minutes drive from the hotel.
Plenty of hiking routs are in the extremely versatile nature and alternating landscape that is found here and around Laugarvatn.


The Skogar Folk Museum under the management of the unique and remarkable Thordur Tomasson has managed to become one of our most interesting museums.
Seljalandsfoss is one of the most famous waterfalls of Iceland. It was a waypoint during the first leg of The Amazing Race 6. It only takes 10 min to drive to Seljalandsfoss from Hotel Edda Skogar.

You can drive up the Kerlingardalur canyon where the movie "Beowulf" was filmed.



Hotel Edda Nesjar is located next to Höfn and in recent years the town has promoted lobster as a central part of its image, for instance with a big "lobster festival" being held each summer.
Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon is one of Icelands most spectacular sights, located about 70 km south of Hotel Edda Nesjar and at the roots of Europe's largest glacier Vatnajokull.
The nearby Skaftafell National Park is a must-see, one of the crown jewels of Icelandic nature.

From Neskaupstaður you can find number of walking trails. The possibilities range from barren uninhabited areas with hikers’ huts to short routes through vegetated valleys or forests to remote beaches and fjords.
On your way to Neskaupstad you will drive through Oddskarð (705m). It is among highest mountain roads in Iceland. The local name of Oddskard is The East Alps.
Neskaupstaður is one of the biggest towns in East Iceland. There is the Hospital for East Iceland placed and it was a good security for the fisherman fishing in the ocean outside the coast.

Egilsstadir is the capital of the East. Located on the bank of the glacial lake/river Logurinn. Lagarfljot is about 140 km long flood or river, rich of glacier water. The upper part creates a lake Logurinn, 53 m2 wide. The lake is deep, 112 m most and 90 m under sea level.
Reindeer were brought to Iceland from Norway in the 18th century. Today the reindeers live only in East Iceland, around 3.000 animals.
